DOWN TO THE WIRE!
It’s been one of those weeks here in El Puerto de Santa Maria, Cadiz. One of those weeks where you’re never sure that it will all hang together in spite of it all, or whether it’s all going to fall apart because of it all.
The location and welcome, at Club Nautico Puerto Sherry and the Andalusian Sailing Federation, couldn’t have been better, big thank you to everyone on the team here for making this yet another Techno 293 World Championships to remember. And in the end the spot served up a mix of conditions that were a fitting test for the 369 young sailors who came from 36 countries to contest the four titles up for grabs.
Techno 293 is THE most vibrant class in windsurfing today, as the stats have proved. Our 2019 World Champions have earned their place on the honours board with consistent performances over a whole season, but also with their ability to adapt to the different and changing conditions here in Cadiz, at the critical moment, when it really counted.
The Junior Girls crammed in four rounds of racing today, but it didn’t change the outcome. Leader board as you were, and congratulations to Israel’s Tamar Steinberg for mastering all the weather and opposition to take the title. She was just ahead of team-mate Danielle Ziv, and the fast-finishing Pole, Anna Igielska. Israel’s Daniel Halperin made it a good day for the team by hanging on to his top spot in Junior Boys, with Italy’s Federico Pilloni grabbing the silver medal spot ahead of France’s consistent Victor Gaubert.
The Youth Boys and Girls categories couldn’t have been more closely disputed, with all the medal places relying on the final race of the day and week. And what a day for France’s Jade Bruche, holding on to top spot in the Youth Girls category despite the best efforts of Israel’s Mika Kafri, with Spain’s Naiara Fernandez finishing strongly to take third place. And in Youth Boys, although nothing was decided until the final round, the Israeli team showed their skills and depth of talent by taking five of the top six places. Hats off to Tal Basik Tashtash, Adir Twill and Ido Pomerantz, who cleaned up the podium spots.
Congratulations to all our winners, to everyone who came and competed, thanks to our hosts and sponsors, without whom NONE of this would be possible!
See you in December for the Techno293 African Championships and 2020 for plenty more Techno 293 action.
